Dear Readers,
Happy Summer! Greetings from hot, steaming Florida where I am for the Rebecca Penneys Piano Festival until the middle of the month. The days are passing by quicker than I can process and I’m definitely topping up on inspiration while I am here.
Continue reading below to see what I’ve been up to for the past two months and where I will be for the rest of summer!
All my very best,
Linda
May in Banff
I spent a very inspiring two weeks at the Banff Centre. You can read my full experience here. I’ve also collaborated with the Banff Centre to make a “Day in the Life” reel on Instagram. So be sure to check it out on my IG. Here are a few more photos because it’s so so stunning.
After Banff Centre, which took me from May into June, I had a slew of concerts in the Lower Mainland with my partner, trumpeter Stamp Netthai. The most notable of these concerts is the one we did at the KnoxVan in Vancouver for the loveliest audience. We played a concert of pieces by Beethoven, Kenley Kristofferson, Kevin McKee, Ricardo Molla and Peskin.
You can find an excerpt from our concert on my Instagram too! During this brief stay in Vancouver, I also got to meet my newborn niece - she is so so cute.
Then I was off to Ottawa to see the National Art Centre Orchestra for the first time in maybe a decade. Stamp was participating in their mentorship program and it was great to hear a great orchestra in a beautiful hall. I also got to practice everyday in the beautiful First Baptist Church (pictured below).
All in all, it was a lovely stay at our national capital. I hopped over to Montreal to see a familiar face (guess who?) - we’re cooking up something for next season, fingers crossed it goes forward!
And all of that brings us here, to Tampa, Florida, where I will be for another two weeks until the conclusion of the program. Meeting an incredible array of professors and being totally inspired from my peers and mentors. I mean, I just played Rach 3 for Olga Kern!! How crazy is that? For those of you who don’t know her legendary performance at the Cliburn, here is the clip for your viewing pleasure.
What’s next?
I am very excited to be participating in two competitions this summer: the San Francisco International Piano Competition and the Ke’alohi International Piano Competition in Honolulu. On top of that, I will be preparing to apply to doctoral programs all over the continent so I’ll be writing, studying, recording, and meeting/visiting teachers. And if that isn’t enough excitement, I’m thrilled to announce that my EGré Winner tour dates are set! I’ll start in October in Newfoundland, Calgary and Vancouver. In November, I’ll be covering Ontario and the rest of the Prairies. You can see all of the dates up at e-gre.ca/tour I will also update my website shortly once everything has been signed and sealed. I hope to see you at some point on the tour!
And that’s it for today! Thank you so much for your support and I’ll see you in the next newsletter!
Stay well,
Linda
Great to hear from you! That's great you've been performing at a lot of places and doing competitions again! I hope good things come your way! (BTW: what's up with the naughtiness in that big group photo?! it's very funny and friendly though!)
